Meet the Principal

Ngā mihi nui tātou, nau mai, haere mai.  I take great pleasure in extending a warm welcome to Riverview School.  Riverview School is situated in beautiful Kerikeri in the Te Tai Tokerau region.  We are a well-resourced kura, which has served the community since 1988.

At Riverview School, our focus is on supporting every child in their learning journey, whether educational, social, or emotional.   We believe in creating a learning culture in which each child is valued, cared for, supported, and challenged.  It is important for us, as staff, students, and whānau, to develop a collective understanding of the diverse needs of each child, so that we have empathy for the child.  “It takes a village to raise a child” - “Mā te pā harakeke te tamaiti e whakatipu”.

We aim to enhance the lives and learning of each ākonga/learner by providing learning opportunities that promote success at their level, where each child and staff member is Growing, Discovering, and Learning for Life.  Through our core curriculum, and a wide range of activities, we provide our tamariki/children with learning experiences that are engaging and inclusive.  We strive to develop a learning environment that is safe, welcoming, and enjoyable, promoting our HEARTWISE Values (Honesty, Excellence, Aroha, Respect, Tolerance, Whānau, Inquiry, Sustainability, Effort).  Our Values are at the core of everything that we do, promote, and celebrate.  They underpin our teaching and learning and provide an environment that prepares our children as engaged, confident, and happy learners.

Staff members are challenged to make change happen for the benefit of all of our ākonga/learners.  We set high educational and social standards and reflect on our practice regularly and carefully, ensuring that we meet the needs of all, based on current research, whānau/student voice, best practice, and strong, respectful relationships.

Riverview School has a friendly, family feel, and there is always a lot going on.  We have great children, who are keen to learn, an excellent team of staff, who go the extra mile, and a supportive, active Board of Trustees and PTA. We appreciate the importance of the partnership between home and school, and we work hard to create real opportunities for parents to become involved in the activities of the school and to create strong links with the community.

This website serves as a window into our school, offering you a glimpse into our vibrant learning community.  It provides updated information for all visitors.  I encourage you to explore it thoroughly to get an understanding of our school, learning programmes, and activities.
