Regular attendance is essential for learning success, wellbeing and belonging. In line with the 2026 Government attendance expectations, all schools are required to have a clear attendance action plan.
At Riverview School our attendance procedures outline the steps taken at each stage of a child’s absence rate. This ensures early support, consistent communication and a shared understanding of expectations.
We track attendance in four colour bands:
One to fourdays absent (Good Attendance).
Five to nine days absent (Worrying Attendance).
Ten to fourteen days (Concenig Attendance).
Fifteen or more days absent (Chronic Attendance).
Students attending at this level are more likely to experience positive academic progress, strong relationships and a sense of connection to their learning community.
Please see the Attendance Action Plan and Attendance Action Plan Visual below.
Our goals are to:
Monitor attendance closely
Communicate with parents and caregivers
Work collaboratively to identify barriers and provide support
Our approach is grounded in making strong connections with tamariki, whānau and wider supports. We understand that there can be complex reasons affecting attendance, and we are committed to working alongside families to support every learner to attend, engage and thrive.
If you have concerns about your child’s attendance, please contact the school early so we can work together to find solutions.
