Dear Parents and Care Givers

Welcome to Term 3.  A very special welcome to new children and also to
two new staff; Mrs Jessica Naylor in Room 3 and Ms Kerrie Ihimaera who has been appointed as  a teacher aide for the term ahead.

Many of you will be interested to know that Mrs Kellie Paul gave birth
to a son on the morning of July 9.  Baby and mother are both well.

Term 3 is a very busy one and there are a number of dates in the first part
of the term that we would ask you to please book into your calendars:

July 27 and 28                  Parent/Teacher/Child conferences for
Year 1 - 4 students.

July 29                                School Mathex Day (see details elsewhere).

July 30                                The Big PTA Disco

August 4                             Community Consultation Evening for
Strategic Plan 2011-2014.

August 13                         Reporting against the National Standards
sent home

August 29                         Bazaar

The Strategic Planning process is a vital one as we set the direction for
the school for the next 3 years.  The Board is very pleased that 122 families (out of 245) responded to the initial survey in term 2.  We have spent many hours reading through and collating this feedback (including all your written responses) and have been able to glean 8 – 10 main areas for further
consultation at the big evening on August 4 (please be there).  Your input has been very significant in this process.

The Bazaar is not far off and the time to get involved (if you haven’t
already) is now.  Please let Melanie Kidd or the school office know what
part you would like to help in, or if you simply don’t know, just ask.
For those families new to Riverview, the Bazaar is our one BIG fundraiser of the year and we need as many volunteers as possible for the day.

Don’t forget to come along to the PTA meeting on Thursday evening
The PTA has just supplied a brand new digital camera for every
classroom and they are a wonderful educational tool.  The next Disco
is very close and there is also a lot of good fun doing things together.
I would especially encourage new families to consider being involved in the PTA.

Please find the Term 3 “Article from the Principal” accompanying this newsletter.  I would not normally write twice on the same topic in one
year but the National Standards are a very important and somewhat dominating topic in 2010, and I feel some updated information to
parents is of value.

I trust all students at Riverview School have a great term 3.
